Festus
Born approximately 2000 or a little before -- an old soul with a big spirit!
Festus has a personality all his own. He sees himself very much in charge of "his" herd of mares. In times where there appears to be competition with another male whether it be the stallion, Magic or another gelding, Festus comes to the defense of HIS girls.
His former owner would describe him as "enchanted." There is something definitely very special about him. As a miniature donkey, he is less than 35 inches at the withers (shoulder). As a Sicilian Donkey, he bears the mark of the cross on his back -- a dorsal stripe down his spine and a cross marking across his withers.
Festus has been the Palm Sunday donkey at Bethel Lutheran Church for a number of years. Bethel takes up a city block in Madison, WI. On Palm Sunday, Festus leads the procession of fans of all ages and the faithful before each church service. Pastors read the scriptures at each sidewalk corner. Festus thinks it's all about him. Kids love him. He loves the carrots, treats and attention from everyone.

At home, Festus loves his blondes -- palominoes. He also likes horse who look like him -- grullas. Festus thinks he is a horse and the horses are Clydesdales.
Check out this Budweiser commercial. That's "the heart" of Festus. (Not trying to promote beer)
Festus is especially fond of his blondes (palominos) and grullas (others who look like him)
