Sable is a 2002 filly.  She was a little tank when she was born.  She practically came out with rippling muscles.  She has some full brothers and sisters also on this site.  Moxie, Moxii and Cay.  There will be another full bother or sister in 2004.

Sable got an infection at birth that settled in her hip bone.  That happens sometimes because a young foal's system is open to all sorts of things.  The choice was put her down or spend lots of money for surgery and hope that she could at least be a broodmare.  I just didn't think it was her time and spent the money to have the surgery.  She had a piece of her bone removed near the growth plate on her right rear leg. 

Today,  Sable looks as though she has made a complete recovery.  She belongs to a local girl who will eventually use her for breeding.  She will be trained to ride.  We don't know what she will be able to do or not do ultimately, but she is becoming a big beautiful mare like her siblings.

Sable is a filly that a lot of breeders would have put down because they would never have gotten their money out of her, and I didn't.  Well, in business, you win a few and lose a few.  I thought Sable deserved a chance at life even if I didn't make money on her.  I think her owner is glad I chose life for Sable.
