Mariah gave us several beautiful foals.  She died suddenly, possibly of an aneurysm.  She was a very quiet mare and excellent mother to her foals.  She was well trained to ride and gave us much joy in her beauty and in the time we shared riding.

At the time of her death, she left behind a month old foal.  We were very fortunate to find a surrogate mare on another farm who lost her newborn foal the same night Mariah died.

This death was different in that it seemed that it was her time to go.  None of the other horses on the farm were upset.  Not that they didn't like her.  I think they were at peace with what happened.  As it turned out, there was another mare for her foal.  This is the part about owning any animal that's hard.  We know they are going to die.  I've chosen to keep them until the end and know their fate.  I'm grateful I did not have to decide her fate, but that it was all taken care of right down to the care of her foal.
