IM Magic is Black Forest Farm's Quarter
Horse stallion. He is the big, black, beautiful, 1987 son of Impressive, a
foundation sire for the Quarter Horse breed with accomplishments so
numerous, they are impossible to list. Primarily, Impressive and his
progeny are known for their show records at halter.
Impressive is also linked to a genetic defect called
HYPP. Magic is N/N for this defect, meaning he does not have it and
cannot pass it on. This is very important to note as AQHA is changing its
registration rules regarding HYPP. Just another positive attribute of this
fine stallion.
Magic is 15.2 hands and about 1300 pounds of sleek, solid muscle. His perfect legs, strong hip and baby-doll head give him a striking combination of features that are truly rare. Strong and solid, yet refined; powerful and athletic, yet gentle enough for a child to handle. Magic has something to contribute to most any herd or breeding program. Best of all, he passes on his traits to his progeny and is HYPP N/N, meaning he can never pass it on.
Regarding photos and videos, remember he was a ranch stallion and almost literally just came off the ranch before his photos were taken. He was not conditioned or altered in any way other than grooming before the photos. So what you see in his photos is his natural genetic composition!

The Story Behind Magic
Magic was strictly a breeding stallion on a ranch out
west. He was one of their top breeding stallions for about 9 years.
He was not shown by the previous owner or promoted much except by word-of-mouth.
Marlene found him in the summer of 2000 when she visited the ranch to look at
one of his daughters. His then owner brought Magic out so Marlene could
see the mare's sire. Her immediate reaction was, "Wow, now that's a
horse!!" She bought the daughter and inquired about Magic. He was
not for sale at that time, but she didn't give up. By the fall of 2000,
Marlene acquired Magic and some of his offspring as a start in continuing the
lineage.

The Color FactorMagic has produced about 130 registered AQHA foals. About 35% are black when he is bred to mares of all colors. He has also produced sorrels, chestnuts, browns, bays, grullos, palominos, duns, buckskins, grays and roans. Magic has also been bred to Paints. His progeny records with the APHA show about 55% show color. Of the colored horses, about half are Tobiano and about half are Overo or Tovero. Of the solid-colored foals, about half are black. The other half are sorrel or bay. That means that based on past records, there is a 77% chance of getting color or black when bred to a paint mare! |

Regardless of the color, one can't go wrong with a son of Impressive.
Dam's Side and Show Record Back to Top
Magic's dam is Opie's Miss Kitty. She was brown and does not have a show record, but she was one of the most sought after brood mares in the western United States for producing multi-champion foals. Her foals are excellent in many categories from performance to halter.
Magic had a brief, but illustrious career going undefeated in three shows bringing home the grands in halter. Magic has winning get in everything from performance to halter to the race track. As stated before, Magic was a ranch stallion for most of his life. There are plans to promote Magic and his progeny more than was ever done before. Magic's progeny at Black Forest Farm will follow the training that utilizes their natural abilities. Our foals and those of our clients will continue the legacy of IM Magic and the Impressive line.
